Fresh Start Foundation (FSF), a registered charity in the UK, on Wednesday presented medical items and an overhead projector to the Serekunda Hospital in Kanifing.

The items donated included surgical equipment, sutures, face masks and syringes.

The charity, which is also a registered NGO in The Gambia, made the donation through the Bournemouth Hospital.

Lamin Sanyang, managing director of the foundation, said their aim “is to provide a safe and emotionally nurturing environment”, where extremely vulnerable children can have access to basic and uninterrupted education whereby they can develop skills and self-awareness.

FSF’s main focus is to provide access to education and health care, educational resources, food, clean water and proper hygiene and sanitation.

For his part, Sutay Jobe, a board member of the foundation in The Gambia, said that in the area of health, the foundation had already signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.

“For the past years, the foundation has been bringing qualified doctors from the UK to provide medical services to the people of Kwinella and its surroundings,” he said.

He added that these doctors do bring along some drugs and medical equipment to the health facility for effective service delivery.

“We have also renovated the staff quarters at Kwinella Health Centre to provide an accommodation conducive for staff.”

Speaking earlier, Alieu Badjie, public relations officer of the Serekunda Hospital, thanked the donors for the gesture, saying the items donated will go a long way in addressing the health needs of the hospital.

The presentation ceremony was witnessed by Rebecca Daffeh, Trustee Manager of the foundation, Steve Fulwood, Christ Roberts and Frank Brimble, all members of the foundation.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Saffie Njie, Principal Nursing officer of the hospital.
