In the gardens I planted mangos, oranges and banana trees. I was amazed that people grew food. I know it sounds obvious, but when I think of the actuality of it, people actually grow food. Now I know how to plant a banana tree as a result – 30cm wide and 20cm deep with a wall of soil around it to keep the water in. A truly humbling experience. The Gambians are the happiest people I know!
